What is an implant?

They are root-shaped titanium materials placed in the jawbone to provide the function and aesthetics of the missing tooth without damaging the teeth in front and behind the lost teeth. The missing tooth area is completed with prostheses that mimic the solid tooth structure on the implants and fulfil the chewing functions. Titanium material is tissue friendly. It maintains its strength without reacting in the body for many years. After the implant placement, the process of fusion with the bone is waited (2-6 months) and then the implant prosthesis process that will imitate the natural tooth is started. During this waiting period, tooth gaps can be filled with temporary teeth. Implants are the best alternative to natural teeth in cases of single tooth deficiency, multiple tooth deficiency or complete edentulism. In order for the implant to be applied, the jawbone must have sufficient height and width. If there is not enough bone, some operations (sinus elevation, graft (bone powder) and membrane use) can be performed before the implant. The operations can be performed under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia according to patient and physician preference.

What are the advantages of implant treatment?

In implant application, missing teeth can be completed without damaging the neighbouring healthy teeth. It is a longer-lasting and more advantageous treatment in terms of patient comfort. It provides a strong chewing function like natural teeth.

How long is implant treatment?

Implant operations can be performed in a very short period of time today. The total duration may vary depending on the number of missing teeth and bone condition. In general, 8 weeks after the implant placement, implant prosthesis teeth are started. During this period, the missing parts can be completed with temporary prostheses.

Can implant treatment be applied to everyone?

It is important to evaluate the patient’s systemic condition and medications. Consultation with the doctor should be made when necessary.

How is implant care performed?

In single tooth deficiencies, cleaning procedures are performed with a toothbrush and dental floss. In multiple tooth deficiencies, care can be provided with a toothbrush, mouth shower and interface brushes. Dentist controls should be visited regularly.
