ENDODONTICS – ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Endodontic treatment is applied as a result of damage to the pulp tissue consisting of vessels and nerves in the innermost part of the tooth, inflammation, necrosis or trauma. In this process, the inflamed pulp tissue is removed from the tooth canals, the canals are sterilized, and the inflamed surfaces are cleaned and shaped with canal instruments. After this procedure, the root canals can be filled to the degree of inflammation in the root canals in the first session, or the root canals can be filled with filling in the second session, after waiting for about 10 days by placing the drug into the root canal.

In cases that require root canal treatment, symptoms can be reduced with antibiotic application, but recovery is not possible unless root canal treatment is performed. In case of late endodontic treatment, inflammation occurs at the tip of the root and may progress towards the jawbone and damage it. In these cases, treatment becomes difficult and surgical interventions or tooth extraction are required.

Root canal treatment is performed under local anesthesia. For this reason, it is carried out comfortably and without pain by the patient. It is normal and temporary to have tenderness and pain in the relevant area for 1-2 days after root canal treatment.

After root canal treatment, the teeth may be more prone to breakage and it may be necessary to make a prosthetic tooth (veneer) on it to protect the tooth.
