PROSTHETIC TOOTH TREATMENT
There are 3 treatment methods to complete the cavities formed as a result of tooth loss in terms of function and aesthetics.
1. Implant prostheses
2. Fixed crowns and bridgeworks
3. Removable prostheses
Implant Prostheses
Implants act as artificial tooth roots. It is inserted into the bone and supports fixed or removable prostheses. After 2-6 months after the implant is placed in the bone, prosthesis is applied. During this period, the patient can use temporary prostheses. Implants are applied to support dentures in single or multiple missing teeth and complete tooth missing. In implant-supported bridgework prostheses, neighboring healthy teeth are not touched, and neighboring teeth are not eroded as in traditional bridgeworks. Retention and stability increase in implant supported complete dentures. The patient can make chewing and speaking functions more comfortable.
Fixed crowns and bridgeworks
They are prostheses made to fill the gaps that occur in one or more tooth deficiencies and to restore the strength and aesthetics of teeth that have lost excessive material. This treatment is applied in order to protect the health of the teeth in the mouth and to provide the oral functions in a healthy way. In this treatment, adjacent teeth are abraded and become a support tooth. Dentures are attached to the cut teeth.
-metal supported crowns and bridges: metal structure is used as infrastructure material. It comes with an aesthetically pleasing porcelain structure. It is especially preferred in the rear areas.
– Full porcelain crowns without metal support: A natural tooth-like appearance is obtained due to the full light transmission of full porcelain crowns. For this reason, they are preferred especially in anterior teeth. Since there is no metal in its substructure, there is no black appearance where it joins with the gingiva. Since a black metal will not be visible when the gingiva is removed, there will be no deterioration in the aesthetic appearance.
– zirconium crowns and bridges without metal support: zirconium is a white alloy that is both aesthetic and durable. For this reason, it is used both in the anterior region and in the posterior region. At the same time, it does not cause allergic reactions, as it is a material that is very compatible with the gingiva. It can be used both as an infrastructure support and as a stand-alone aesthetic material.
Removable prostheses
They are prostheses that can be put on and taken off by the patient and applied to replace missing teeth. In cases where all natural teeth are not present, total dentures are applied. In cases where some teeth are in the mouth, partial (partial) dentures are applied. Types of removable prostheses:
– Total prostheses: These are teeth that do not have all of their natural teeth and are removable.
– Over-dental prostheses: These are prostheses applied after preparation on several existing teeth or roots in the mouth.
– Partial (partial) prostheses: These are prostheses that can be inserted and removed by taking support from natural teeth with clasps (hooked), and dentures that are supported by the teeth that remain more aesthetically pleasing with precision attachment.
Prosthetic Care
For oral health, food residues on the prostheses should be cleaned after each meal. In fixed prostheses, the prosthesis and gingival junctions should be brushed, under the prostheses, dental floss, interface brushes and mouthwash should be used. Removable prostheses can be cleaned with a soft brush and liquid soap. Cleaning with hard materials should be avoided. Chemicals and detergents should not be used. We should not clean under the tap under pressurized water so that it does not fall into the sink and break. Cleaning can be done in a container filled with water. During sleep, the prostheses should be kept in normal water or water with denture cleaning tablets.
